How does your billing work?
We bill service calls on a time and material basis with a two-hour minimum. This includes labor hours, travel hours, travel miles, per diem, hotel, tolls, etc. The final invoice could differ from the quote if more/less time is required on site than quoted.
What if we want the technician to look at a different machine than quoted?
The technicians can take a look at any machine you want them to, but not all machines will fall under their specialties. The best option would be to let the office know that the scope of work has changed so they can get the correct technician scheduled to save you time and money.
What if the technician finished looking at the machine we are quoted for and we want them to look at something else?
While the technician is onsite, they will look at any machine you ask them to if they have time left in the day. If you want them to look at machines that weren’t previously quoted, we cannot guarantee they will be able to fix them during that visit, but we will be sure to do the best we can.
Can you fix my machine?
Although we always want to say yes to this question, there are some machines that are beyond the ability to be fixed. We will take the time to thoroughly look through your machine, give you options of parts, retrofits and reconditioning, but there are some machines that have parts that are obsolete and cannot be duplicated.
Do you work with this(brand/type) of machine?
We have experience working on over 100 different brands of woodworking machinery and will work on just about anything. Even if we haven’t seen your particular make and model, we will gladly come and work on it.
How quickly can you get here?
We do our best to get to all customers as fast as possible. Our typical lead time is around 1 ½-2 weeks but there are many occasions we can get someone there quicker than that. Our office staff can give you a lead time when you call in and will always let you know if an opening comes up sooner than originally scheduled.
Where are your techs based?
We are proudly US owned and operated. We are based out of a little town called Hughesville, located in central Pennsylvania.
Are you willing to travel this far?
We will send our technicians anywhere in the United States and we are open to discuss opportunities in other countries.
What are the costs involved?
The costs involved differ depending on the type of work being provided:
Service Call/Installation: The costs for a field service technician to come to your facility are billed time and material. This would include labor hours, travel hours, travel mileage, per diem and the occasional hotels and tolls. There could be an additional line item for parts if they are requested and approved.
Shop Work: If you bring your machine to our shop to be worked on, the costs are broken down depending on what departments are involved. These costs could include shop labor, welding/fabrication, clean/paint, machine shop, parts needed, etc. Prior to work starting, we will send you our evaluation of the machine so you would know what we believe needs done as well as a quote to perform the work.
How do I get started?
To get started on scheduling a service call or shop work, you can call 570-584-2002 Opt. 2 or email service@rtmachineservice.com.
Service Call: We will gather the machine details (make, model and serial #) and what issues you are having with the machine. Once that information is received, we will send you a quote on what the estimated cost will be. If the quote is agreed upon, we can then start scheduling!
Shop Work: Depending on what your situation is, we will need to see the machine to get you our evaluation prior to starting this work. We can either schedule a technician to come to your facility to do the evaluation or you can ship your machine to us. Once the evaluation is complete, we will reach out to you to see what all you would like to do. Once the evaluation is discussed, we will get you a quote and work will begin when it is approved!
Are your techs trained to work on this specific machine?
We have many technicians that have been factory trained to work on their brands of machinery, but not all factories offer technician training. All of our technicians have been trained in house by our skilled technicians to work on different brands of machinery
Why do you think it’s going to take ____ days to complete?
We determine the labor hours based on experience performing the same or similar work as well as recommendations we have received from the manufacturer. All our quotes are estimates and are subject to change based on actual time and material used. We like to quote on the higher side of a job to try to prevent a surprise when receiving the final invoice.
Why do you think a return visit may be needed?
A return visit is needed if parts are required to get your machine running.
If the machine needs parts, is that something we can install ourselves?
You are more than welcome to install the parts on the machine yourself. If you have any questions, you can give us a call and we will try to help you over the phone.
